BROOKLYN, NY--The FA Euro New York PDL Club has been struggling for the last month as they fell in the standings to 1-4-0 on the season, after winning their season opener versus Evergreen back on Mother's Day weekend in Virginia. There was a lot of promise from both of the new players. The new GM of the club, Joey Jarzynka, said after that win, "I think this club may be surprising us early, and I would be very shocked if we fell off the grid after this opening win." As it turns out, Jarzynka is shocked, because they've fallen off the standings grid.
Midfielders David Itoafa and Davide Lorenzo have been released from their contracts signed with the PDL. Itoafa, 21, has played the last four seasons in the NCAA for Siena College in Division I play. Lorenzo, 20, has been playing for the U23 club for Juventus FC overseas, but has not seemed to bring all of the talents he has over to the United States. Itoafa now heads back to Canada, as Lorenzo respectfully heads home, back to Italy.
The PDL club has resigned standout defender from the 2016 season, Momodou Sawaneh. Sawaneh, 27, was supposed to begin the season with the first team, but he sustained a knee injury in the pre-season and has been out ever since. He is slated to come off the team's injured reserve on Sunday and be ready to play his first game since playing last year for the PDL team. Brandon Igiehon, 19, who has been playing for NCAA Division II's SUNY- Potsdam College, has been a powerful forward who looks to give the FA Euro club a much needed spark in the lineup moving forward.
Goalkeeper Matt Dabrowski has been signed to a contract, which will spark a goalkeeper controversy moving forward with McPartland, McElhinney and now Dabrowski on the roster. Dabrowski, 18, is the starting goalkeeper at NCAA's Northeastern University, a Division I team. He is slated to make his season debut on Sunday in goal.
Sawaneh, Igiehon, and Dabrowski are slated to make their season debuts this Sunday vs. the New York Red Bulls U23 Club at Belson Stadium on the campus of St. John's University at 7:30pm. Game will be aired on the I-95 Sports Network (www.i95sportsnetwork.com)
